  Sonja Lingo

Sonja became a volunteer consultant at the CPC in March of 2007 after experiencing a miscarriage.  Her background as a Mental Health Counselor has made it easy for her to counsel her clients and help them in their time of need.  In September, she joined the staff at the CPC and is currently serving as our Administrative Assistant.  She and her husband, Jamie, have an 11 mo. old son, and they are expecting their second child in June of 2009.  Most of her spare time is devoted to various ministries at her church, as well as time with her family and friends.

“ I remember sitting in church and hearing about the need for volunteers at the CPC. God spoke to me and told me that I should inquire about the needs at the center. Unfortunately, I made a choice not to listen and I never asked anything about the center. Little did I know that the Lord hadn’t forgotten, and he was about to give me another chance to do what he was asking me to do. After a second appeal for volunteers, the Lord spoke to me again. This time, I met with the center’s director and told her about my past experience of being in an abusive relationship that ended in a pregnancy. The director asked me if I had ever thought of using my past experiences to help other girls through similar situations. After much prayer and discussion about the logistics of how this could happen, I felt the Lord leading me to be a consultant at the center. I volunteered for this position expecting to help other women, having no idea how much it was going to help me heal from my past!

I started volunteering shortly after the center added some evening hours on Thursdays (which worked out perfectly, because I work full-time during the day). I now have 3 regular clients, each with their own set of charms and challenges. I am currently coaching two pregnant teens through the trials of pregnancy, and I am also working with a woman who is trying to heal after having multiple abortions. Although I don’t always have “the answers,” my prayer is that God will use me to show his amazing love and forgiveness. I look forward to Thursday every week because I can’t wait to see my clients and hear all about their weeks. The Lord has blessed me more than I could ever explain! And because I finally chose to listen to him, he has also brought me healing from my past. Praise God that he can make “broken” into “beautiful.”
